There were many new things I learned while listening and reading this tutorial. It was a dry tutorial, but it was very useful in the end. The skills I learned were, when and how to use footnotes. Also that scholarly journals are the best kind of research you can find. They can back up your facts the best, unlike internet websites, that can be made by just anyone. You can use news magazines as well, but it’s hard to kind the supported sources, it’s best to just not use them at all. Another new tip I learned is how to read the numbers in the library when finding books. All books are placed in sections of theme along with a number that shows the order they are going to follow. Learning to use the online library catalog is very simple, especially since my lovely professor Vallier taught us well.
I now feel more confident in my researching skills. Using these tutorials have helped me find that researching in the library doesn’t have to be a scary thing, it’s actually very simple to do. The steps in the videos were clear and easy to remember. I never knew an encyclopedia could offer so much information with such little text. It’s really nice to know that the information is cited, which helps to get the info you need easily. They aren’t lengthy, but help you find other sources you never thought of before. Next time I need to do a little research I can handle it, I’m sure.
Hey Melanie, I found the tutorial to have a lot of very helpful information. When the fall comes I will make sure to look back on the tutorial for any information I might have missed. I also learned a lot about footnotes. I have never had to use the footnotes before so it was good to know exactly what they are for. I have used encyclopedias before, but never really thought of how they helped me with research. I just used it as a source because I had to. I am glad that the tutorial showed me that encyclopedias are good for looking up background information.

ReplyDeleteI found this tutorial useful in the end as well. At first, I found the library to be huge at Florida Gulf Coast University and I was scared to even walk in. I thought I would become lost or never find what I was looking for. I was glad Professor Vallier showed us this tutorial because, in the fall, we will know how to do all of our research for ENC 1102. I found the encyclopedia to be an extremely helpful source as well. Scholarly journals are one of the best resources to use in a college paper.
